Wadim Zudilin is a Russian mathematician who studies number theory, hypergeometric functions, and zeta constants. He studied with Yuri Nesterenko and has worked at Moscow State University, the Steklov Institute of Mathematics, the Max Planck Institute, and the University of Newcastle in Australia. He currently works at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. Zudilin provided a new proof of Apéry’s theorem that ζ(3) is irrational and extended it. He also showed that at least one of ζ(5), ζ(7), ζ(9), or ζ(11) is irrational. He received the Hardy–Ramanujan Society Distinguished Award in 2001 for this work. Together with Doron Zeilberger, he improved the upper bound for the irrationality measure of π, and as of 2022 that bound is the best known.
