Auto 5000
Auto 5000 GmbH was a German car maker inside Volkswagen's Wolfsburg plant. It was created to lower costs and keep German jobs as production moved elsewhere. Pay was lower and working hours were more flexible. The trade union IG Metall agreed terms for workers who were unemployed, at risk of redundancy, or seeking flexible hours. The name comes from starting pay of 5,000 Deutsche Marks a month and about 5,000 employees (3,500 in Wolfsburg and 1,500 in Hanover). The company built the Touran (2002–2008) and the Tiguan (2007–2008). In 2008 VW said the project would end, and from January 1, 2009, remaining staff moved to the standard Volkswagen contracts.
