Almena Township, Michigan
Almena Township is a civil township in Van Buren County in southwestern Michigan, United States. It covers about 34.8 square miles, mostly land, with a small amount of water. The population was 5,308 in 2020, about 154 people per square mile.
History and notable facts:
- The first permanent white settler was Jonas Barber in 1835.
- The township was set off in 1842 and named after a Potawatomi princess.
- The settlement grew around Almena Mills, a grist mill operated by Samuel Fisk.
- A Free Will Baptist church was started near Covey Hill in 1843.
- Post offices: Almena Centre (1848–1849) and Almena (1861–1905).

- In 2000, there were 4,226 people, predominantly White.
