Jari River (Rio Jari)

The Jari River is in the Brazilian state of Amazonas and is a right-hand tributary of the Purus River. Its basin and the natural resources and fish there are protected by Nascentes do Lago Jari National Park, created in 2008 and covering about 812,745 hectares. The river also forms the eastern border of the Piagaçu-Purus Sustainable Development Reserve, established in 2003 and covering about 1,008,167 hectares. In its upper reaches, the Jari flows through the Purus-Madeira moist forests ecoregion, and further downstream it runs through the Purus várzea (floodplain forest) ecoregion before joining the Purus.
