Asrani (surname)
Asrani is a common Sindhi Hindu surname. Like other Sindhi Hindus, people with this name migrated to India during the Partition when Sindh became part of Pakistan, and many later moved to countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom. Today, most Asranis live in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and in California. Sindhi surnames often end with -ja or -ani; the -ani suffix marks a clan or the name of an ancestor. Asrani is said to come from the ancestor Asromal; in Sindhi, Asro/Asra means "hope," which relates to the meaning of Asrani. Asrani is the name of people who belong to this ancestral line.
