Compaq Professional Workstation
Compaq Professional Workstation is a family of workstations from Compaq. It launched in November 1996 and was discontinued in 2002. The first models used one or two Pentium Pro processors. Later models used Pentium II and Pentium III CPUs, with Xeon options as well. The XP1000 was the only non-x86 entry, using a DEC Alpha processor. The lineup was aimed at professionals in computer-aided design, software development, multimedia design, and finance. Although Unix was common in the field, these workstations came with Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, later upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional.
