Arthur McNutt Cochran
Arthur McNutt Cochran (October 16, 1811 – 1883) was a merchant, ship owner and politician in Nova Scotia. He represented Hants County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1859 to 1863, and was later named to the Legislative Council in 1875. Born in Newport, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Terrance Cochran and Elizabeth Weir. At 16 he joined his brother Loran De Wolf in business in Halifax, and later started his own business in Maitland; he also ran a farm. In 1839 he married Susan Weir. Cochran served as a justice of the peace, was a school commissioner for East Hants, and spent some time in the local militia. His brother Felix also served in the assembly.
