Arkhipo-Osipovka
Arkhipo-Osipovka (often called Arkhipka) is a rural locality (selo) and Black Sea resort in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. It is administered as part of the Town of Gelendzhik and lies about 50 km from Gelendzhik city. The area has one of the warmest climates on Russia’s coast. The population was about 6,991 in 2021.
The settlement began as the Cossack village of Vulanovskaya in 1864 and was later renamed in honor of Arkhip Osipov, a soldier who sacrificed his life to save his comrades from Circassians in 1840. It had urban-type settlement status until 2004.
Nearby attractions include waterfalls and the remains of an ancient Roman fort. The local economy relies on the Beregovaya compressor station, one of the world’s largest, which is part of the Blue Stream gas pipeline carrying natural gas from Russia to Turkey and Europe.
