Arkangel Shakespeare
The Complete Arkangel Shakespeare is an easy-to-listen audio drama series that presents 38 of William Shakespeare’s 39 plays. Recordings began in 1998, first on cassette and later on CD. The plays are unabridged and based on The Complete Pelican Shakespeare. Music for all the plays was written by Dominique Le Gendre. About 400 actors took part, most coming from the Royal Shakespeare Company. The series won the 2004 Audie Award for Best Audio Drama. The box art shows a figure of Shakespeare made of books, inspired by the Renaissance painting The Librarian by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. The project took five years and cost about $3 million. It was created by four people: Shakespeare scholar Tom Treadwell, film producer Bill Shepherd, BBC producer-director Clive Brill, and composer Dominique Le Gendre. Audio Partners published the series. Cast lists for each play are included with the releases.
