Aretha Now
Aretha Now is the thirteenth studio album by Aretha Franklin. It was released on June 14, 1968, by Atlantic Records. The songs were recorded from December 1967 to April 1968 at Atlantic Studios in New York City, and the album was produced by Jerry Wexler. The record runs 29 minutes and 23 seconds and is a soulful collection.
The album quickly went Gold and eventually sold over a million copies in the United States. It reached No. 3 on the Billboard album chart and No. 6 in the United Kingdom, giving Franklin one of her strongest UK performances. In 1993, Rhino Records reissued Aretha Now on CD. Critics have noted its significance: Pitchfork named it the 133rd best album of the 1960s, and Mojo ranked it as Franklin’s sixth-best album.
Singles from the album included “Think” / “You Send Me” (May 2, 1968), “I Say a Little Prayer” (July 26, 1968), and “I Can’t See Myself Leaving You” (April 7, 1969).
