Archaeological Museum of Argostoli
Archaeological Museum of Argostoli, also called the Kefalonia Museum, is in Argostoli, Greece. It sits a few blocks south of the central square on Vergoti Street, opposite the Municipal Theater. The original museum was destroyed by the 1953 earthquake. A new building opened in 1960, designed by architect Patroklos Karantinos. The collection includes pottery and jewelry from excavations around the island and Melissani Lake, 3rd-century BC tombstones, a 2nd-century BC mosaic from the temple of Poseidon, and archived photos from an 1899 Sami excavation. The building was damaged in the 2014 earthquake and was demolished a few years later. Construction on a new building began.
