Arab Athletics Federation
Arab Athletics Federation (Arabic: الاتحاد العربي لالعاب القوى) is the regional governing body for athletics in Arab countries. It was formed on 15 March 1975 at a conference in Rabat, Morocco, to improve the sport and foster cooperation in the Arab world. The federation has 20 member federations and a leadership structure that includes a president and two vice-presidents—one from an Asian Arab country and one from an African Arab country. It works with the IAAF, the Asian Athletics Association, and the Confederation of African Athletics. The current president is Suleiman Awwad al-Zaidi of Saudi Arabia.
Its main events are the Arab Athletics Championships (biennial, started in 1977), the Arab Cross Country Championships (started in 1978), the Arab Junior Athletics Championships (started in 1984), and the Arab Youth Athletics Championships (started in 2004). The federation also runs a circuit of track and field meetings to help athletes qualify for its championships and publishes Arab Hero Magazine to share news about Arab athletes and competitions.
