Aquila chrysaetos simurgh

Aquila chrysaetos simurgh is an extinct subspecies of the golden eagle. Fossils have been found on the island of Crete. It lived during the Late Pleistocene and shared the landscape with Mammuthus creticus, the smallest mammoth. Some scientists have treated it as its own species, Aquila simurgh. Synonyms include Aquila simurgh. It was described by Weesie in 1988.
