Persona 4: The Golden Animation is a 2014 anime by A-1 Pictures based on Persona 4 Golden for PlayStation Vita. It expands on the 2011 Persona 4 anime by adding new stories from the Golden version of the game. The plot follows Yu Narukami and Marie from the Velvet Room as they work to solve murders caused by the TV World.

The series has 12 episodes plus 1 original video animation (OVA) with an alternate ending. It aired on MBS’s Animeism block from July 10 to September 25, 2014. Seiji Kishi served as chief director, with Tomohisa Taguchi directing and Jun Kumagai writing. The soundtrack was composed by Shoji Meguro and Tetsuya Kobayashi.

Opening and ending themes include the main opening “Next Chance to Move On” by Shihoko Hirata and the ending “Dazzling Smile” by Hirata (featuring Marie’s voice actor Kana Hanazawa in episode 11). Episode 1 uses the opening “Shadow World” from Persona 4 Golden, and episode 8 uses “key + words,” the second opening from Persona 4 The ANIMATION.

In North America, Aniplex of America licensed the series and offered simulcasts on Crunchyroll, Hulu, Daisuki, and the Aniplex Channel. Two subtitled Blu-ray volumes were released on July 21, 2015, and September 29, 2015. It’s recommended to watch this after the original Persona 4 anime, since it focuses on Golden content and skips parts of the main story. In Japan, Blu-ray and DVD volumes began releasing on September 10, 2014, with an OVA included on the fourth volume.
