Apterocyclus palmatus
Apterocyclus palmatus
Apterocyclus palmatus is a species of stag beetle in the family Lucanidae. It is found on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. In 1919, five specimens were found at an elevation of about 4,000 feet. The species was described by Van Dyke in 1921. They were first described as a subspecies of Apterocyclus honoluluensis, but are now considered a distinct species. No new specimens have been found recently, and the species may be extinct. Adults are about 22–23 millimeters long and can be identified by their long, toothless mandibles and the distinctive shape of their front tibia.
