Russ Ochsenhirt
Russell William Ochsenhirt (April 16, 1912 – October 4, 2002) was an American basketball forward. He was born in Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania, and went to Perry High School in Pittsburgh. Ochsenhirt played at the University of Pittsburgh from 1931 to 1934, serving as captain of the 1933–34 team. In 1934 he was named to Liberty magazine’s All-American first team and was twice selected to the All-Eastern Intercollegiate honor squad. After earning a degree in electrical engineering, he moved to Akron, Ohio, to work in management at Goodyear Tire and Rubber and joined the Goodyear Wingfoots basketball team. He captained the 1937–38 Wingfoots, which won the MBC championship in 1937 and the NBL championship in 1938, a predecessor to the NBA. Ochsenhirt stood 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 195 pounds. He died in Akron, Ohio, at age 90.
