Anoteropsis flavescens
Anoteropsis flavescens is a wolf spider found only in New Zealand. It was first described by Ludwig Koch in 1878 and was revised in 2002. It is the defining species of its genus, Anoteropsis, and the original type specimen (holotype) is believed to be lost.
Size and appearance: males are about 6.5–9.1 mm long and females about 7.4–9.7 mm. The carapace is orange-brown with two brown bands and black lines starting from the fovea. The legs are orange-brown. The abdomen is orange-brown with a brown-yellow heart-shaped stripe and black bands on top.
Where it lives: this spider is only known from the southeast part of New Zealand’s South Island, in swamps and marshy grasslands.
When you can see adults: September to May.
Conservation status: Not Threatened.
