List of sessions of the 8th National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia

The 8th National Assembly of Slovenia holds regular sessions, usually in the third week of each month and lasting about a week. Extraordinary sessions can be convened by the Speaker within 15 days and for urgent matters.

Key events

- The Speaker election: Matej Tonin (NSi) was elected Speaker with 80 of 90 votes.
- Commission for Public Office and Elections: Jože Tanko (SDS) was elected president and Tina Heferle (LMŠ) was elected vice-president.
- MPs’ mandates: A session was interrupted to confirm MPs’ mandates and then continued to elect the Speaker.

Prime Minister elections and leadership work

- First round: The President indicated he would not propose a candidate in the first round after Janez Janša and Marjan Šarec informed him that neither had a majority in the Assembly.
- Second round: The session began on Friday, 17 August, to elect Prime Minister Marjan Šarec. It was suspended and then resumed on Thursday, 23 August to continue with Deputy-Speaker elections.
- Working bodies: The Assembly formed working bodies and elected the third Deputy-Speaker and the Secretary-General. The Deputy-Speakers were Jože Tanko (SDS) and Branko Simonovič (LMŠ), with references to the procedural rules (Articles 58 and 60 of the Rules of Procedure).
