Queens Park, New South Wales
Queens Park is a small eastern Sydney suburb in New South Wales, Australia. It sits about 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) from the Sydney central business district and surrounds the large urban park of the same name, which is part of Centennial Parklands. The area is in the Waverley Council region and is bordered by Centennial Park to the west, Bondi Junction to the north, Randwick to the south, and Waverley/Charing Cross to the east.
History and layout
- The suburb used to be part of Bondi Junction and was officially renamed Queens Park on 2 October 1992.
- Houses along the eastern side are mostly Victorian-era, while the northern and southern sides mainly have Federation-style homes.
- Notable places include the Eastern Suburb Banksia Scrub, Moriah College (on the park’s western edge) and the former Eastern Suburbs Hospital building.
- The name comes from Queens Park on the suburb’s southern border.
- The 1st Australian Field Ambulance was raised at Queens Park in August 1914. Some locals still refer to the area as Bondi Junction.

- Population (2021 census): 3,143 people.
- 66.4% were born in Australia; 7.1% were born in England.
- 80.5% spoke only English at home.
- Religions: No Religion 41.2%, Catholic 23.0%, Judaism 10.9%.
Parks and recreation
- Queens Park was once part of Sydney Common and the Lachlan Swamps Water Reserve.
- It is now a large urban park within Centennial Parklands and was dedicated in 1888.
- The park has many playing fields used since 1938 and is used by Moriah College for PDHPE lessons.
- In 2009, major renovations improved playing fields and the popular children’s playground and added a shared cycleway to connect with the eastern suburbs cycle network.
