Anne de Vries (22 May 1904 – 29 November 1964) was a Dutch teacher and writer known for novels about life in a Dutch region. He was born in Kloosterveen near Assen and married Alida Gerdina van Wermeskerken in 1930; they had five children. His best-known work is Bartje, a coming‑of‑age story that became a symbol of the province of Drenthe. In 1972 Bartje was made into a TV series by Willy van Hemert, bringing De Vries national fame after his death. He also wrote Bartje Seeks Happiness and Journey through the Night, a four‑volume children's book about World War II published between 1951 and 1958. De Vries died in Zeist at the age of 60.
