Shin-ik Hahm
Shin-ik Hahm, also known as Shinik Hahm, is a Korean American conductor and professor. He teaches the Practice of Conducting at Yale School of Music and is the Music Director of the Yale Philharmonia. He has led orchestras in North and South America, Europe, and Asia, with recent appearances in Geneva and Besançon, at Bolshoi Hall in St. Petersburg with the St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, and with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall.
He is also an opera conductor and has worked with the Silesian National Opera in Poland. He has performed with and recorded alongside renowned musicians such as Salvatore Accardo, Emanuel Ax, Joshua Bell, Yefim Bronfman, and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Earlier in his career, he served as Music Director of the Abilene Philharmonic and the Green Bay Symphony, and he has guest conducted the Silesian Opera in Poland. From 2001 to 2006, he was Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra, gaining public attention for his energetic and creative productions. From 2010 to 2012, he led the KBS Symphony as Artistic Director. In 2014, he started Symphony Orchestra for the Next Generation (Symphony S.O.N.G.) to support young talent; the first concert was on August 23, 2014, at the Seoul Arts Center. His goal with Symphony S.O.N.G. is to move away from traditional, bureaucratic orchestra management and to promote creative, independent music.
