Angelica Bengtsson
Angelica Therese Bengtsson is a Swedish pole vaulter born on July 8, 1993, in Väckelsång, Sweden. She started in gymnastics and later focused on pole vaulting, competing for IFK Växjö and then Hässelby SK. She became the first pole vaulter to win a gold medal at the Summer Youth Olympics in Singapore in 2010.
Her early success grew quickly. She won gold at the 2009 World Youth Championships and the 2010 World Junior Championships. In 2010 she set the world youth record with 4.47 meters, and in 2011 she set the world junior record with 4.63 meters. She also won national titles as she joined the Swedish senior ranks.
In 2015 she finished fourth at the World Championships in Beijing, setting a Swedish national record of 4.70 meters in the final. In 2019 she jumped 4.81 meters indoors in Clermont-Ferrand, and 4.80 meters outdoors at the World Championships, helping Sweden set new outdoor records.
Bengtsson announced her retirement from pole vaulting on November 1, 2021. She is 1.63 meters tall and weighs 51 kg. Her mother is Afro-Brazilian. She won 11 national titles during her career.
