Opened on 30 March 2016, Xihu East has three exits (A, B, and C). The exits are designed in Lingnan architectural style to reflect Huizhou’s Dongjiang and Hakka culture. Exit C opened at the station’s opening, and Exit B opened on 23 July 2024. The station lies next to the West Lake Scenic Area, with large shopping malls nearby.
Background and construction
- The West Lake station was added to help tourists visit West Lake and to support the city’s renovation.
- In 2010, after the Ministry of Railways joined the Pearl River Delta intercity project, planners redesigned the line to include Xihu Station near Lipu Fengqing (the former site of Huizhou’s government).
- Construction began in March 2011. The plan shifted from shield tunneling to open-cut construction due to concerns about lakebed water pressure and leakage, which required pumping in some areas.
- The tunnel broke through in April 2014. By late 2015, the station was named Xihu East.
Current operation
- On 12 March 2024, Xihu East was included as a stop on the Guanghui Intercity Express.
- In the first two months of through-running, the station averaged about 3,351 passengers on weekdays and 7,154 on weekends, showing growth from before.
