Hooq
Hooq was a Singapore-based video-on-demand service launched on 30 January 2015 as a joint venture between Singtel (65%), Sony Pictures (17.5%), and Warner Bros. (17.5%). It offered movies, TV shows, and local programming through a subscription in Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, India, and Indonesia, with content available in English, Thai, and Indonesian. The platform also produced original content, including a mini-series based on the film On the Job.
In 2016, Hooq won the Best Mobile App award at the GSMA Global Mobile Awards. Because it was loss-making, Singtel explored an IPO in 2019. On 27 March 2020, Hooq filed for liquidation and shut down on 30 April 2020, laying off about 240 staff. Its assets were acquired by Coupang in July 2020 to form Coupang Play.
In early 2024, Hedley Digital (now SEO Korea) acquired Hooq’s digital assets and transformed them into an OTT meta-search platform.
