Astwood, Buckinghamshire
Astwood is a small village in Buckinghamshire, England, within the City of Milton Keynes. It sits near the border with Bedfordshire, about 6 miles east of Newport Pagnell and 8 miles north-east of Central Milton Keynes. The name comes from Old English and means “east wood.” Many of the older houses have thatched roofs, giving the village a quaint rural feel.
Astwood forms a civil parish with the nearby village of Hardmead, together known as Astwood and Hardmead. The parish had about 420 residents at the 2011 census. The parish church, St Peter, is a Grade II-listed building dating from 1154. Its churchyard is said to be one of the prettiest in the county, and the church features a 14th-century window, bells from the 15th and 17th centuries, and a clock installed in 1774. Public worship ceased in 2015, and in 2025 the church was put up for sale with planning permission to convert it into a three-bedroom home.
