Anageia
Anageia (Greek: Ανάγεια) is a village in the Nicosia District of Cyprus, about 15 kilometers south of Nicosia. It lies between Pano Deftera to the north and Ergates to the south, with the Pedieos River on its east side forming the border with nearby villages Pano Deftera and Psimolofou.
The name Anageia comes from ancient Greek words meaning "upper road," referring to a historic path that leads to the village from the main road to the mountains.
The village has two Greek Orthodox churches dedicated to Saint Nomonos (Nomonas) and Saint Vichianos. The old church, near the cemetery on the east side, is connected to Saint Nomon because a nearby cave is said to be where he rested during his travels. A larger, modern church sits to the west to accommodate more worshippers.
Anageia is known for its cleanliness and has won yearly awards for it. Notable places include the old stone church of Saints Nomonos and Vihianos, narrow streets with traditional mud-and-straw houses, and a community park on a hill with panoramic views.
As of 2011, the population was 1,514. The postcode is 2640. The village is in the Eastern European Time zone (UTC+2) and observes daylight saving time in summer (UTC+3).
