Amrutvel, Savarkundla
Amrutvel is a village in Savarkundla Taluka, Amreli district, Gujarat, India. It lies about six miles northeast of Savarkundla.
Historically, the village belonged to a Bukhari Syad named Anvar Shah. He employed a Sidi named Balal, who fell in love with a Brahmin woman drawing water at the Nishania well. Balal insulted the woman, and when her husband protested, Balal killed him. The Brahmin woman then performed sati, and her funeral monument (paliyo) still stands near the village with the date Samvat 1042 (996 AD).
In revenge, the Juna Savar Valas attacked the village at night, killing both the Sidi and the Syad and burning the village. The Khumans repopulated the village in the 15th century and gave it the name Amrutvel.
