Aminoacyl-tRNA hydrolase
Aminoacyl-tRNA hydrolase is an enzyme that helps recycle tRNA during protein production. It hydrolyzes the bond between an amino acid and its tRNA, releasing a free amino acid and an uncharged tRNA. It belongs to the hydrolase family, enzymes that break chemical bonds with water, specifically those acting on carboxylic ester bonds. The systematic name is aminoacyl-tRNA aminoacylhydrolase. Other common names include aminoacyl-transfer ribonucleate hydrolase, N-substituted aminoacyl transfer RNA hydrolase, and peptidyl-tRNA hydrolase. Several three-dimensional structures of this enzyme have been determined, helping scientists understand how it carries out the reaction.
