Alypia mariposa
Alypia mariposa, the mariposa forester, is a moth in the Noctuidae family. It was described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote and Coleman Townsend Robinson in 1868. This species lives in California’s Coast Ranges and Sierra foothills, from Kern and San Luis Obispo counties in the south to Placer County in the north. It looks like Alypia ridingsii but lacks the black lines through the white wing spots. Adults are on the wing in April, May, and June. The larvae feed on Clarkia bottae and Clarkia unguiculata.
