Alforjas
Alforjas is an extinct genus of camelid that lived in North America during the Late Miocene, roughly 10.3 to 5.3 million years ago. It existed for about five million years. The known species is Alforjas taylori. The name comes from Spanish for saddle bags, a term related to llamas, and it also has a regional meaning of humps or lumps. Alforjas was taller, larger, and had a longer snout than related camelids such as Pleiolama, Hemiauchenia, Palaeolama, and Lama. Fossils have been found in the Mexican states of Zacatecas and Guanajuato, and in the United States in Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska.
