Sabbac is a DC Comics supervillain character who appears in several versions across different stories. In each version, Sabbac is a powerful demon-like being created from hellish power that can be unleashed by saying the word “Sabbac.”

Four main versions

- Karnes (the original): Timothy Karnes becomes Sabbac when he speaks the word Sabbac. Hell power gives him super-strength, speed, durability, flight, and fire abilities. The name Sabbac is an acronym for six demon lords — Satan, Aym, Belial, Beelzebub, Asmodeus, and Crateis.

- Gregor: Ishmael Gregor, a New York mob boss, seeks Sabbac’s power. He uses a ritual to access the demon’s power through Karnes, who is killed in the process. Gregor becomes a larger, more feral Sabbac.

- Barnes: Timothy Barnes (Freddy Freeman’s foster family connection) is revealed as a descendant connected to Sabbac. In Superman/Shazam: First Thunder, he is transformed into Sabbac during a ritual and battles Superman and Captain Marvel. He is ultimately defeated when the heroes outsmart him.

- Bryer: In Justice League #10, Mr. Bryer, a rich villain, hosts Sabbac in the modern era. This version represents the seven deadly sins and creates a huge, 50-foot demon. He fights the Shazam Family and Black Adam.

Other appearances

- Ishmael Gregor appears in the TV show Arrow.
- A version of Sabbac appears in the DC Extended Universe film Black Adam.

Powers and abilities

- All versions have great strength, stamina, durability, speed, agility, reflexes, and flight, along with healing.
- They can breathe or blast fire and gain demonic power when Sabbac is accessed.
- The Bryer-hosted Sabbac can possess people, shapeshift, and imitate others, effectively making him immortal in some stories.
- In some arcs, the Sabbac power is tied to the demon lords behind the word itself.

In short, Sabbac is the dark opposite of Captain Marvel/ Shazam’s power, with four main human hosts who become a demon by saying the name and tapping into hellish magic.
