Al Ahli SC (Tripoli)
Al-Ahli Sports Club Tripoli, also known as Al-Ahli Tripoli, is a Libyan professional football club from Tripoli. It is the second most successful Libyan team after Al-Ittihad, with 14 Libyan Premier League titles, 8 Libyan Cups and 3 Libyan Super Cups.
The club’s crest shows a green and white background with a torch on the outline of Libya. The torch represents independence, which the nation achieved shortly after the club was founded. After their 10th league title in 2000, the crest gained a star on top.
Founded on 19 September 1950, Al-Ahli Tripoli plays at Tripoli Stadium, which has a capacity of 50,000. The club’s chairman is Dr. Mohamed Al-Mishai and the manager is Hossam El Badry. They compete in the Libyan Premier League.
Al-Ahli Tripoli is the only Libyan club to reach a continental final, the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1984, but they withdrew from the competition for political reasons. The club’s colors are green, symbolizing independence, peace and hope. The name Al-Ahli means “The People” or “Family,” reflecting its roots in Libya’s drive for unity and national identity. In 2000, there was a famously confusing season in which the club was involved in the league’s unusual outcome.
