IDHEAP is the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration. In 2014, it joined the University of Lausanne. It offers graduate and post-graduate programs for public sector managers and others aiming to work in public service, plus professional training for public bodies. It also conducts research and provides consulting to the public sector. IDHEAP leads the Swiss Public Administration Network, which links universities to boost research and doctoral studies in public administration.

IDHEAP was founded as a foundation by Enrico Bignami together with the canton of Vaud, the University of Lausanne, EPFL, and the Friends of IDHEAP. It is accredited by the Swiss Confederation, and its Master of Public Administration (MPA) is accredited by the European Association for Public Administration Accreditation.

Programs: The MPA is a 90‑ECTS Master of Advanced Studies for current or aspiring public sector managers. It includes a foundation of six core modules, three 12‑day options chosen from 18 electives, and a roughly 100‑page research thesis. Teaching uses group work, simulations, case studies and real-world projects. Courses are in French; an international English‑language MPA will be offered, and German and English are also used. Students can write their work in French, German, English or Italian. The typical graduate is about 37 years old; around two thirds are men and one third are women. Most graduates already have a university degree in fields such as political science, economics, law or the arts.

Research and funding: IDHEAP runs projects funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Commission for Technology and Innovation, the European Union and other programs (Swiss Virtual Campus, Interreg, COST). Some work is funded by consulting fees. About 33 research projects are underway. In recent years IDHEAP has received SNF grants, helped award doctorates in Public Administration, and recognized scholars for social policy research. In 2007 IDHEAP completed numerous consulting missions for clients including Liechtenstein, international organizations, the Swiss Parliament, cantons and major Swiss cities.

Partnerships: IDHEAP has exchange and partnership agreements with various institutions.
