It is part of the animal kingdom, Mollusca phylum, Cephalopoda class, Ammonoidea subclass, Goniatitida order, Goniatitina suborder, and the Adrianitoidea superfamily (named by Schindewolf in 1931). The main family is Adrianitidae; synonyms include Adrianitaceae. Their shells range from subdiscoidal to globose, with variable umbilici, and their sutures have 10 to 30 lobes, usually similar in size.
