The Acrobats (Italian: Le acrobate) is a 1997 Italian drama film directed by Silvio Soldini. It stars Licia Maglietta and Valeria Golino, with cinematography by Luca Bigazzi and music by Giovanni Venosta. The movie runs 123 minutes and is in Italian. It premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1997.

Plot:
Elena, a divorced chemist in Treviso who works for a cosmetics company, meets Anita, an elderly Slavic woman, after Elena accidentally hits her with her car. Moved by Anita’s strong personality, Elena helps her with everyday tasks and even buries Anita’s cat. After Anita dies, Elena finds postcards from Taranto and decides to search for Anita’s relative there. In Taranto, she meets Maria, Anita’s friend, and Maria’s daughter Teresa. Elena and Maria become friends, and together they explore life’s twists and turns as they seek deeper meaning. Teresa is fascinated by the North.
