Admirals Beach
Admirals Beach is a small rural fishing town on the island of Newfoundland in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It sits on a point of land on the southern Avalon Peninsula, facing St. Mary’s Bay near Great Colinet Island.
The community was settled in the early 1800s, first by a French admiral. By 1864, three families lived there. A post office opened by 1911, and the population was 39. The town grew over the years, especially after many people moved there during the 1956 resettlement from Great Colinet Island. Admirals Beach was incorporated as a town on January 16, 1968.
Admirals Beach covers about 24.2 square kilometers. In 2021, 97 people lived there in 48 of its 76 private dwellings, down from 135 in 2016. Most residents are fishermen, and the town has two shipyards that built fishing boats and longliners with supplies from local sawmills. Nearby communities include St. Joseph’s, Riverhead, and St. Mary’s.
