Regan Truesdale
Regan Truesdale (born July 31, 1963) is a former American college basketball star who played for The Citadel in South Carolina. He stood 6 feet 4 inches tall and played forward/center.
College career highlights
- Attended The Citadel from 1981 to 1985. He was named Southern Conference Player of the Year in 1984 and 1985 and earned First-Team All-SoCon honors both years.
- He scored 1,661 points and had 688 rebounds in 109 games, making him The Citadel’s second-leading scorer in school history (as of the early 2010s).
- The Citadel went 58–55 during his time, and went 26–1 at home during his junior and senior seasons, helping fuel a long home-winning streak.
- Freshman year: came off the bench, averaging 2.3 points per game.
- Sophomore year: became a starter and averaged 13.1 ppg, highlighted by a 21-point game against NC State and a 53.2% field-goal percentage.
- Junior year (1983–84): led the team with an average of 22.0 ppg, scoring 617 points. Notable games included a 41-point performance against Marshall and a 26-point game against North Carolina; he helped spark a 22-game home winning streak.
- Senior year: averaged 21.5 ppg and 624 points, earning his second SoCon Player of the Year award and an Honorable Mention All-American designation from the Associated Press.
Pro career and later life
- After college, Truesdale played in the Continental Basketball Association for the Kansas City Sizzlers (1985–86) and Savannah Spirits (1986–87). He also spent a season playing in New Zealand before finishing with the World Basketball League’s Memphis Rockers (1988–89). He eventually returned to Heath Springs, South Carolina.
Honors and legacy
- Inducted into The Citadel Hall of Fame in 2003 and had his Citadel jersey honored in 2010.
- He remains one of The Citadel’s top scorers, with career marks including 1,661 points and a 15.2 ppg average.
