Abim, Uganda
Abim is a town in Northern Uganda. It is the main town and administrative center of Abim District, which is named after the town. Abim is in the Karamoja sub-region of the Northern Region.
It is located about 140 km by road west of Moroto, about 180 km by road east of Gulu, and about 414 km northeast of Kampala. The town sits around 1,154 meters above sea level.
Population has grown a lot over the years: 7,645 people in 2002, 17,168 in 2014, about 18,100 in 2015, and about 24,400 in 2020, growing on average about 6.2% per year from 2015 to 2020.
Key places in or near Abim include the Abim Town Council offices, the Abim District Administration headquarters, Abim Central Market, and Abim General Hospital (100 beds). There are branches of DFCU Bank and Stanbic Bank Uganda. The Soroti–Amuria–Abim–Kotido Road passes through the town from south to north.
