Abbott and Smith
Abbott and Smith was an organ-building firm in Leeds, England, from 1869 to 1964. Isaac Abbott started the business in 1869 after 20 years with William Hill in London. William Stanwix Smith, another Hill employee, ran the firm as manager until Abbott retired in 1889. The firm built organs in the tonal style of Edmund Schulze. From 1889, William Smith and Abbott’s son ran the company. It later passed to Smith’s sons and grandson. In 1964 the firm was bought by J. H. Horsfall.
