Iglesia San Blas de Illescas
Iglesia San Blas de Illescas, the Church of Saint Blaise of Illescas, is a Catholic parish church on the town plaza in Coamo, Puerto Rico. Construction began in 1661 and it is considered one of the island’s most important examples of religious architecture. The church sits behind ceremonial steps and a delicate cast-iron balustrade that separate it from the plaza below. Its Baroque facade, rebuilt in 1784, features a two-level bell-gable with arches and bells. The parish of San Blas in Coamo is one of the oldest on the island. The church sits on about 0.5 acres.
It is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places (reference No. 84000463) as part of the Historic Churches of Puerto Rico, added on December 10, 1984. Address: Mario Braschi Street, Town Plaza, Coamo, Puerto Rico.
