Starlights (women's cricket)
Starlights, previously known as Terblanche XI, are a South African women’s cricket team that plays in the Women's T20 Super League. They don’t have a home city and bring together top players from across South Africa. Their colours are light green. The team is captained by Dane van Niekerk and coached by Claire Terblanche. They have won one league title, in 2019–20.
History:
- Formed in 2019 for the Women's T20 Super League. They were named Terblanche XI after coach Claire Terblanche and captained by Laura Wolvaardt. They finished bottom in the inaugural season, losing all three matches. Wolvaardt was the top run-scorer with 188 runs, including 110 against M van der Merwe XI, and Masabata Klaas was the leading wicket-taker with 6.
- For the next edition in December 2019, the side was renamed Starlights. Terblanche stayed as coach and Chloe Tryon became captain. Starlights won the tournament, with two wins and a better Net Run Rate.
- The third edition in December 2020 saw Tryon as captain and Terblanche as coach, with Lizelle Lee, Masabata Klaas and Andrie Steyn added in the draft. Starlights finished 3rd, with one win from three matches, including a 2-run victory over Coronations. Klaas took 6 wickets, the second-most in the tournament.
- The fourth edition in December 2022 had a new captain, Dane van Niekerk. Starlights finished top of the standings, but five matches were washed out by rain, so no overall winner was crowned.
