4,5-Dihydroxyphthalate decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.55) is an enzyme that helps break down certain aromatic compounds. It is a lyase, specifically a carboxy-lyase, which means it removes a carboxyl group by breaking a carbon–carbon bond. The reaction it catalyzes converts 4,5-dihydroxyphthalate into 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate and carbon dioxide. Its systematic name is 4,5-dihydroxyphthalate carboxy-lyase (3,4-dihydroxybenzoate-forming), and it is also called 4,5-dihydroxyphthalate carboxy-lyase. The enzyme participates in the degradation pathway of 2,4-dichlorobenzoate.
