382nd Infantry Regiment (United States)

The 382nd Infantry Regiment is a United States Army infantry unit. It has had three active periods: 1918; 1921–1952; and 1999–present. It served as a reserve unit and fought in the Pacific during World War II as part of the 96th Infantry Division. After the war it returned to reserve status and was deactivated in 1952. It was reactivated in 1999 as a training unit.

History
- Constituted on September 5, 1918, in the National Army and assigned to the 96th Division. It was demobilized on November 30, 1918 after the armistice with Germany.
- Reconstituted June 24, 1921 in the Organized Reserve (later the Army Reserve), Ninth Corps Area. Headquarters established at Medford, Oregon, with 1st Battalion at Corvallis, 2nd at Marshfield, and 3rd at Salem. The regimental headquarters moved to Salem in 1923, and the whole regiment relocated to Medford in 1930.
- Training included summers with the 4th Infantry Regiment at Fort Lewis and with the 7th Infantry Regiment at Vancouver Barracks, Washington. It also held infantry Citizens’ Military Training Camps at Vancouver Barracks. Primary ROTC feeder schools were the University of Oregon and Oregon State College.
- Ordered into active service on August 15, 1942, at Camp Adair, Oregon. As part of the 96th Infantry Division, it fought in the Battle of Leyte (1944) and the Battle of Okinawa (1945). It was inactivated on February 3, 1946, at Camp Anza, California.
- Reactivated January 10, 1947 in the Organized Reserve (redesignated Army Reserve in 1952) with headquarters at Boise, Idaho. It was inactivated on March 1, 1952, and relieved from the 96th Infantry Division.
- Redesignated on October 17, 1999 as the 382nd Regiment and reorganized to consist of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battalions as part of the 75th Division (Training Support).

Honors
- Medal of Honor recipients: Private First Class Clarence B. Craft (Okinawa), Private Ova A. Kelley (Leyte, mortally wounded), and First Lieutenant Seymour W. Terry (Okinawa, mortally wounded).
- Decorations include the Presidential Unit Citation and the Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation.
