2nd Tangier Regiment
2nd Tangier Regiment
The regiment was raised in 1662 by Henry Mordaunt, 2nd Earl of Peterborough, while Tangier was under English rule. It joined the standing army of King Charles II and was intended to garrison the English Tangier colony. Four years later, Tangier was evacuated, and the garrison was withdrawn. After several name changes, the regiment became the 4th (The King's Own) Regiment of Foot when regimental numbers were introduced in 1751.
