Lucky Lehrer, born Keith Lehrer on April 18, 1958, in New York City, is a Los Angeles drummer known for helping shape hardcore punk. He played with influential LA bands such as Circle Jerks, Bad Religion, Redd Kross, Darby Crash Band, and LA’s Wasted Youth. With a background in jazz, he blends complex rhythms from jazz and Latin music with fast, aggressive punk, earning him the title “Godfather of hardcore drumming” among fans.

Lehrer also appeared in three notable punk documentary films and has taught drums to many players, including future Bad Religion drummers Pete Finestone and Bobby Schayer. He is the brother of Chett Lehrer, guitarist of LA’s Wasted Youth. He credits his mother, who died of cancer, with encouraging him to switch from guitar to drums.

Influenced by jazz legends Buddy Rich and Max Roach, as well as John Bonham, Lucky’s style combines swing and intensity to drive songs forward. He has long worked with Drum Workshop (DW) and later endorsed Sabian cymbals, expanding his kit for live and studio work. He is an advocate for marijuana legalization, arguing that laws should be fair and consistent across states.
