21st Arizona State Legislature
The 21st Arizona State Legislature, made up of the Arizona State Senate and the Arizona House of Representatives, met in Phoenix from January 1, 1953, to December 31, 1954, during the end of Governor John Howard Pyle’s term.
Legislative makeup:
- Senate: 19 members. Democrats held 15 seats, Republicans 4 (a gain of four seats for Republicans).
- House: 80 members. Democrats held 50 seats, Republicans 30 (a Republican gain of 19 seats; Democrats lost seven).
Sessions:
- Regular session 1: January 12 to March 31, 1953
- Regular session 2: January 11 to April 10, 1954
- Special session: October 13 to November 3, 1953
Notes:
- Some members were continuing from the previous Legislature.
- James W. Ewing died in office and was replaced by H. S. Corbett.
- Elijah Allen died in office and was replaced by William S. Porter.
