The 2021–22 Danish 3rd Division was the first edition of the league since 1990. It started with 12 teams. After 22 rounds the group split into a promotion group and a relegation group. The top two teams in the promotion group earned promotion to the 2022–23 Danish 2nd Division. Karlslunde IF, Herlev IF, IF Lyseng, and Young Boys FD had been promoted from the 2020–21 Denmark Series. The top six teams overall would compete for two spots in the 2022–23 Danish 2nd Division, while the bottom six would fight to avoid the four relegation spots back to the Denmark Series. Points and goals from the regular season carried over into the final groups.
