Stef Blok is a Dutch politician from the VVD (People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy). He was born on December 10, 1964, in Emmeloord. He studied business administration at the University of Groningen and earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. He worked in banking for ABN AMRO before entering politics.

Blok served in the Dutch House of Representatives from 1998 to 2002 and again from 2002 to 2012. After the 2010 election, he became the VVD’s parliamentary leader in the House, a role he held until 2012. In 2012 he was appointed Minister for Housing and the Central Government Sector, a position he kept until 2017. He also served as Acting Minister of Security and Justice in March 2015 and as Acting Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations during 2016.

In January 2017 Blok became Minister of Security and Justice, a post he held until October 2017, when he left that role and announced retirement from politics. In March 2018 he returned to government as Minister of Foreign Affairs, serving in that role until May 2021. He then served as Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy from May 2021 to January 2022.

Since September 1, 2022, Blok has been a member of the European Court of Auditors for the Netherlands. He lives in Enkhuizen with his wife and they have one son.
