Dome Peak
Dome Peak is a tall, glacier-covered mountain in the Glacier Peak Wilderness of Washington’s North Cascades. It sits in Skagit County, at the far southeast corner of the county, and is part of the Cascade Range. The peak reaches about 8,920 feet (2,720 meters) in elevation and has a prominence of around 3,040 feet.
The mountain is rather remote, which makes it a less common climb for mountaineers. Dome Peak sits at the southern end of the Ptarmigan Traverse route. It has two main summits connected by a narrow ridge; the northeastern summit is the higher one. Chickamin Glacier lies to the north and Dome Glacier to the west, with a rock face dropping to the southeast. Dana Glacier sits on the north side of the ridge that links Dome Peak to Spire Point.
The name was given by Albert H. Sylvester, the first forest supervisor of Wenatchee National Forest. First ascents: the northeast summit was climbed on August 1, 1936, by George Freed and Eric Larson. The southwest summit was climbed on July 5, 1936, by Forest Farr, Norval Grigg, and Don Blair.
