1847 in France

1847 was a difficult year in France. A poor harvest raised bread prices, hurting many workers and farming families. People grew tired of the ruling July Monarchy under King Louis-Philippe and called for political reform. To voice their demands, reformers organized public banquets and meetings across cities. The government tried to ban or limit these events, which increased public anger. Street protests and political pressure continued throughout the year and set the stage for major changes in 1848, when the monarchy fell and France moved toward a republic.
